The High School Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the UP RVA High School Program! Our application process begins in the fall of 7th grade and continues through the 8th grade year, with key steps along the way to ensure that students and families have the time and support they need.

The UP RVA application opens November 1 of 7th grade and is completed in three parts:

  • Part 1: Student and family demographic information
  • Part 2: Short answers and essays
  • Part 3: Teacher evaluations and official transcript

Parts 1, 2, and 3 must be submitted by December 15 of the 7th grade to be considered in the priority round. Final applications, including all materials, are due by February 1 of the 7th grade.

Following the submission of applications, students will participate in interviews and testing days. Admission decisions are shared with families on March 1 of the 7th grade. Students selected as finalists are then invited to information sessions, family meetings, and independent school visits during the spring.

The process continues into 8th grade as students complete independent school applications, attend visits and interviews, and ultimately make their school choice the following spring.

We encourage families to stay engaged and connected throughout the process so that every student is well-prepared to take this important next step in their educational journey.

The parent or guardian should complete Form 1 and include demographic information on the student and their family.
