UP RVA High School Application

Join the UP RVA High School Program

The High School Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the UP RVA High School Program! Our application process begins in the fall of 7th grade and continues through the 8th grade year, with key steps along the way to ensure that students and families have the time and support they need.

The UP RVA application opens October 1 of 7th grade and is completed in three parts:

  • Part 1: Student and family demographic information, official transcript, and teacher recommendation requests
  • Part 2: Short answers and essay
  • Part 3: Skills assessment, student interview, and parent/guardian interview

The Priority Deadline for Parts 1and 2 is December 1, 2026. Part 3 must be submitted by January 15, 2027, to be considered in the priority round.

Admission decisions are shared with families on March 1, 2027. Students selected as finalists are then invited to information sessions, family meetings, and independent school visits during the spring.

The process continues into 8th grade as students complete independent school applications, attend visits and interviews, and ultimately make their school choice the following spring.

We encourage families to stay engaged and connected throughout the process so every student is well prepared to take this important next step in their educational journey.

The parent or guardian should complete Part 1 and include demographic information on the student and their family. You must also request that your child’s official school transcript, including grades through at least the end of 6th grade, be sent directly to admissions@uprva.org. Families can usually request the official transcript through the registrar, school counselor, or principal

UP RVA requires two teacher evaluations as part of the application for our high school program. In Part 1, please provide the contact information for two teachers who have taught your child in an academic subject (English, History, Math, Science, or Foreign Language) within the last calendar year. This may include a 6th-grade teacher or a current 7th-grade teacher. UP RVA will reach out directly to those teachers with the evaluation materials.

UP RVA must receive official transcripts and the teacher evaluation by January 15, 2027, for an applicant to be considered in the priority round.
