High School

A Second Home

UP RVA serves as a base camp and safe space for our students throughout their high school career. We strive to meet each individual’s unique needs, then layer on community, encouragement, and accountability. We are truly in it together.

UP RVA is like a family to me. It’s not just helping with school; it’s everything. They open up so many doors for people like me.

How We Help

300 +

After-School Program

Call it the “kitchen table” or the heartbeat of UP RVA, our After-School Program helps our students process their day and get ready for tomorrow. Located at Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School in the East End, the program provides our students with dinner, access to Wi-Fi, tutoring and homework help, and social-emotional support two nights a week and one Sunday a month.

Academic Services

It helps to know where you’re going. We work with each student, their family, and their school to craft a four-year academic plan, then help them stay on track with weekly visits with our staff academic strategists. We also support students with school supplies, books, technology, and twice-monthly Sunday study sessions.

Transportation

Our drivers are on the road from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., transporting our students to and from school each day, as well as to all extracurricular activities seven days a week.

College Prep

Applying to college is stressful! That’s why we match each high school junior with a volunteer College Mentor who will walk with them through the college research, application, and matriculation process. UP RVA also helps with standardized test preparation, financial aid, and scholarship applications.

Summer Support

We help our older students identify ways to use their summer productively, whether through academic enrichment or opportunities to gain exposure to careers or college majors. We then support their choices with tuition, transportation, and other needs.
