I tutor at UP RVA because I love witnessing the ‘lightbulb moment’ when a difficult concept finally clicks for a student. I’ve learned invaluable lessons from the students’ resilience, determination, and drive—far beyond what I could ever teach them.

Become a College Mentor
Each of our high school juniors is matched with a volunteer mentor to walk with them through the entire college process. College Mentors help students research colleges, accompany students on college visits, edit college essays, assist with applications, and generally serve as a helping hand and sounding board.
Become a Professional Mentor
Interested in becoming a Professional Mentor? Low-income, first-generation college students often do not have the same professional networks as their better-funded peers. We aim to bridge this gap by connecting UP RVA college students with expert mentors in their professional areas of interest. If you or someone you know might make a great professional mentor, please contact UP RVA’s Pathways Program Director, Caitlyn Carpenter at ccarpenter@uprva.org!
