The Middle School Application Process
Thank you for your interest in the UP RVA Middle School Program! Our application process begins in the fall of 5th grade with key steps along the way to ensure that students and families have the time and support they need.
The UP RVA application opens on September 1 of the 5th grade and is completed in three parts:
- Part 1: Student and family demographic information, official transcript, and teacher recommendation requests
- Part 2: Short answers and essay
- Part 3: Skills assessment, student interview, and parent/guardian interview
To be considered in the priority round, Parts 1 and 2 must be submitted by October 31, 2026. The priority deadline for Part 3 is November 15, 2026.
After submitting applications, students will participate in interviews and testing days. Admission decisions are shared with families in early December. Students selected as finalists are invited to information sessions, family meetings, and independent school visits in December and January. Students complete their independent school application in January.
We encourage families to stay engaged and connected throughout the process so every student is well prepared to take this important next step in their educational journey.
The parent or guardian should complete Form 1 and include demographic information on the student and their family. You must also request that your child’s official school transcript, including grades through at least the end of 4th grade, be sent directly to admissions@uprva.org. Families can usually request the official transcript through the registrar, school counselor, or principal.
UP RVA also requires one teacher evaluation as part of the application for our middle school program. Please provide the contact information below for either your child’s 4th-grade teacher from last year or their current 5th-grade teacher. UP RVA will contact the teacher directly with the evaluation materials.
UP RVA must receive official transcripts and the teacher evaluation by November 15, 2026, for an applicant to be considered in the priority round.
