How We Help
Academic Support
UP RVA stays close to our students during middle school—first through weekly one-on-one meetings in 6th and 7th grade, then our After-School Program in 8th. These touchpoints allow us to make sure students are connecting to their school community, staying on track with their work, and building routines that work for them.
Planning and Organization
We emphasize skills that outlast a single report card: planning, managing time, breaking a project into pieces. Students learn to start something hard and see it through, asking for help when needed. After three years, our middle schoolers own their work from start to finish.

Extracurricular Guidance
Middle school is for exploration. We encourage students to practice saying “yes” to new experiences, trying out clubs, sports, and activities. By ninth grade, they’ve already tested what holds their attention, and they’re ready to go deeper.
Transportation
Our vans get middle schoolers to school, to extracurriculars, and home again, five days a week. Students never miss out on an opportunity because they don’t have a ride.
Summer Institute
All rising 6th graders attend a weeklong summer program where they explore what it means to be a part of UP RVA. This is also where friendships begin.
By the time students reach 9th grade, they know how to manage their time and make thoughtful choices. They’re comfortable with the campus, the routines, and the people. Their practice has paid off, and they’re ready for what’s next, with UP RVA continuing alongside them to high school.
